Takoha Puoro

Takoha Puoro is the gift of music. This innovative music programme has come about through a community led need and innovative partnership with passionate and local business supporter John Cook. This successful Fairfield College programme uses music as a tool to engage with students who may be struggling with attendance or behavioural problems the programme is facilitated by Jamey Ferguson, a well-known and respected industry expert. John Cook and his business community were able to see the need and use their influence and support to fit out and the music centre to ensure James Ferguson was able to inspire the rangatahi in his community. Jamey Ferguson is from the Fairfield community and has experienced great loss and pain within his whānau on the streets of the community. By leaving his own professional and highly successful music career behind, he know focuses on giving back to his community and empowering other young people to succeed in life who otherwise would not have the opportunity or support.
